Inspiration: Art School Confidential, a movie that doesn't know it's about an elitist kitsch art snob who's super-anal about a charmingly naïf freshman outperforming him and all of them annoying alternative lifestylists and a woman he creepily orbits not being into his classicist-cartoony drawings he supposes make him the next Picasso. I love that movie.132083893235943568 | 2019 | digital drawing made in Passpartout

ART SQOOL certainly is one of the worst games about visual art I've played, and it's everything I expected from a NY-based 3D artist with a background in wavey vapors and comics about how life and comics about it are not funny. I sense all the usual platitudes on why the game's shortcomings are intentional and and how it's meant to be a hollow and crappy experience. Post-irony is the fear of actually saying something and thinking that's postmodern.
The sad thing is that the ingredients for a game or an ironic art program are there. It doesn't even need to have a functioning AI. The randomizer is fine. It echoes the arbitrary tastes based on which art profs tend to grade their students. But then at least it could give bollocks advice or comment nonsensically on your journey and improvements. It could compare you, randomly, to other players (or did Glander attend an art school he was the only student at?) - very simple things to implement.
This seems like a pre-alpha release and I know the joke is that it's supposed to feel like that and I know Glander knows everybody heard that joke before and that's the point. Welcome to the "If you don't like the joke you didn't get it" school of humour.
I don't really care; I forced myself through it to prove to myself that I could endure a bad 4 hour long joke on the audience's expense, but all the drawings you make then have that tramp stamp at the bottom and that's the only thing that actually really bothers me because MAN. That was uncalled for.
Be prepared for some weeks of me posting my ART SQOOL doodles so you can share my enjoyment.
I'm going to reinstall Passpartout now.in the workshop | 201? | 42 x 60 | lithograph
